BCCI meeting on Dec 1 to discuss new coach appointment
New Delhi : BCCI office bearers will meet in Kolkata, on December 1, where Gary Kirsten’s appointment as India’s cricket coach could be ratified.
“The BCCI office bearers will meet in Kolkata on December 1 where the issue of the new coach will certainly come up. The members would be briefed on all the developments regarding the appointment of the coach,” BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said.
The meeting will coincide with the second day of the second Test between India and Pakistan at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The BCCI has already made it clear that the coach would be appointed in a week’s time and this meeting assumes significance as any appointment needs the ratification of the working committee.
It is only after this meeting, that a formal announcement is expected to be made.
Kirsten has already been declared a front-runner for the post left vacant by Greg Chappell after India’s disastrous World Cup campaign in West Indies.
The team has been without a coach ever since and has had cricket managers accompanying it for the tournaments played after the World Cup.
While Ravi Shastri accompanied the team to the tour of Bangladesh, Chandu Borde took over for the 80-day tour of the UK.
Lalchand Rajput was with the team for the Twenty20 World in South Africa and was later retained for the ODI series against Australia and the ongoing series against Pakistan.
