We have proved people wrong about ICL: Cairns

Chandigarh  – Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns Saturday said that the holding of the Twenty-20 tournament by the newly formed Indian Cricket League (ICL) has shown that the body means business.

‘Everyone thought initially that the ICL tournament would never happen. We have proved them wrong. Everything takes time to evolve and the forthcoming tournament will establish that,’ Cairns pointed out.

Addressing a press conference in the company of his new team mates from the Chandigarh Lions team, Cairns said that the ICL was a young body and will evolve with time. The New Zealander said that Twenty-20 cricket was not putting additional pressure on the players as it was less demanding. ‘A bowler can bowl only four overs.

It takes only two overs to take a match either way,’ Cairns said. The ICL, labelled as a rebel cricket body by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is starting its Twenty-20 cricket tournament at a newly built stadium at Panchkula town, 10 km from here, Nov 30.

Besides Cairns, other international stars expected at the tournament will include Brian Lara, Nathan Astle, Russel Arnold, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzak, Chris Harris, Nicky Boje, Lance Klusener, Stuart Law, Craig Macmillan, Vikram Solanki, Ian Harvey and others.

The ICL tournament has six teams in which the international players have been divided while the rest of the teams will comprise of Indian cricketers who have joined the ICL.
